Concerts on the Green

Since 1975, the Valley Cultural Center has presented a series of free “Concerts on the Green” during the summer. Organized to enrich the lives of Valley residents, these concerts feature top pop, jazz, classical, folk, and world music performances every Sunday afternoon at Warner Park. The series includes food, booth vendors, and a children’s play area. Parking for concerts is available in the parking structure directly behind the stage on Califa Street for $15.

Coyote Leaves the Res: The Art of Harry Fonseca

Featuring paintings, sketches, and lithographs, Coyote Leaves the Res: The Art of Harry Fonseca focuses on the recurring figure of Coyote, a trickster, shape shifter, and storyteller capable of moving undetected between different worlds. This exhibition explores the complexity of Harry Fonseca’s (Nisenan Maidu, Hawaiian, Portuguese, 1946–2006) art within the context of a contemporary world, in which new freedoms and old biases often exist side-by-side. Central Avenue Jazz Festival

Two days of jazz performances pay tribute to “The Avenue,” as Central Avenue was known during its renaissance years from the 1920s through the 1950s. Ethnic cuisine and arts and crafts are available for sale, and educational booths provide community information.   Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday 12:00 noon – 7:30 p.m.

Watermelon festival

California Watermelon Festival has weird watermelon games like “watermelon skiing,” food vendors, cooking demos, a BMX bike show, kids’ shows and activities, and bands at Hansen Dam Soccer Fields.     Adults – $12, Children – $7, Under 3 Free Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

In addition to one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California, there will be Chinese traditional art demonstrations, Chinese acrobats, traditional dance, hip hop, music, and martial arts performances.
