In sunny Los Angeles, a lack of tree cover in low-income areas has left many residents especially vulnerable to rising heat. It’s a legacy of the city’s design as well as its history of racist policies. Journalist Alejandra Borunda documented this, “Shady Divide,” in a cover story for National Geographic and will talk about the history that led to shade inequity across the city, the heat-related dangers arising from a lack of tree canopies in poorer areas, and some of the ways people are trying to fix the problem.

The Travelers by Luis Alfaro

In a nearly abandoned Catholic monastery, a man shot through the heart disrupts the lives of a small group of Brothers. “The Travelers” explores brown men seeking connection and heart in California’s Central Valley. In the original voice of the Latinx/Latiné world, Alfaro’s writing breaks through religious dogma, recognizes cultural connections, and offers solace for communal souls.    Thursdays – Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 4:00 p.m.
