The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) are pleased to present COLA 2021, a virtual exhibition featuring new work by Edgar Arceneaux, Maura Brewer, Nao Bustamante, Jedediah Caesar, Neha Choksi, Lia Halloran, Phung Huynh, Farrah Karapetian, Ruben Ochoa, and Umar Rashid. These ten artists are the Visual Arts recipients of the 2021 City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Fellowships. The Performing Arts recipients are: Neel Agrawal, Noel Alumit, Michael Datcher, and Sarah Elgart. The Fellows were selected by a panel of curators, educators, museum directors, and past COLA Fellows. The COLA initiative provides each artist with $10,000 to produce a new body of work that will be premiered at the COLA 2021 exhibition.
“COLA Fellows are the type of unique civic entrepreneurs that we need in this city,” said DCA General Manager Danielle Brazell. “DCA is proud to honor these creative visionaries and nurture their symbiotic relationship with LA, other artists, and the city’s history and identity as an international arts capital.”
The virtual exhibition will include: dedicated web pages for each visual art fellow, video features, and images of their new work. The exhibition will be accompanied by virtual performances from the Performing Arts Fellows and a catalog produced by DCA’s Marketing, Development, Design, and Digital Research Division and designed by Garland Kirkpatrick, a former COLA Design Fellow.
