Vaccines are reaching more people, and Bruins are graduating this weekend. Finally, we have good reasons to celebrate and dance off the pandemic blues!
Tune into the Fowler’s Instagram Live @fowlermuseum, or turn on UCLA Radio for a fabulous, two-hour set with Chulita Vinyl Club Los Angeles. DJs Trankis, Sleepwalk, and Bien Buena will be spinning feel-good music in many genres pulled straight from their personal record collections. When you’re dancing with the Chulitas, anything goes and everyone leaves happy.
This program is presented in partnership with UCLA Residential Life, UCLA Radio, and UCLA LGBTQ Campus Resource Center.
Chulita Vinyl Club (CVC) is made up of women, gender-non-conforming, non-binary, LGBTQ+, and self-identifying people of color. CVC launched in 2014, with the goal of providing a safe space for empowerment, togetherness, and use of music on vinyl as a form of resistance against the erasure of culture. Each Chulita embraces their own identity, rejecting classification as one nationality or culture. Within CVC, members identify as Latinx, Tejanx, Chicanx, Xicanx, Afro-Latinx, and more. Their unifying denominator is the desire to come together over the belief that EL DISCO ES CULTURA and is worth preserving and perpetuating.
