Los Angeles Mission College’s beautiful new AMP Theater comes alive on Thursday, April 18, 7pm, when Benita Bike’s DanceArt presents an engaging concert dance performance that includes audience Q&A. This performance is FREE! Join members of the community, students & faculty for this unique dance experience. The College is located at 13356 Eldridge Ave., Sylmar, 91342. This program is funded, in part, by the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles Mission College AGS Honor Society, and L.A. Mission College Arts, Media & Performance Department.

Benita Bike’s DanceArt, a chamber modern dance company, receives praise for its polished concert work and extensive community outreach both in home base Los Angeles and beyond. Like a string quintet, the dancers of Benita Bike’s DanceArt perform with uncommon sensitivity to one another, bringing intense beauty and vibrancy to each delicately crafted, expressive movement. Now in its 38th season, the Company is experienced at introducing dance to new viewers and enriching the experience for those already familiar with the dance art.

Benita Bike’s DanceArt will present new work “Plugged,” that explores our relationships to the machines in our world and how these affect our sensitivity to quiet and nature. In addition, the Company will present “For Rose” and “In the Garden.”

The Hilton Als Series: Njideka Akunyili Crosby

This exhibition features collage-based paintings from “The Beautyful Ones”, the artist’s ongoing series of intimate portraits of Nigerian children, including members of her own family. Akunyili Crosby creates unique settings for her subjects, where history, philosophy, and fantasy permeate the walls of quiet living spaces. Furnished with vintage decor and analog electronics, the interiors evoke her own 1980s-era youth.
