A National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere about coming of age and coming out. After graduating from high school, Natalie gets a summer internship working for Jean, her elderly neighbor, on a special project: creating a DIY retirement home for Jean and her two best friends. She helps them set up shop inside Jean’s garage, the former home of Jean’s ex-husband’s Bruce Springsteen cover band, and plan for the next chapter of their lives together. HERLAND is a queer coming-of-age comedy about women growing up, growing old, and growing into themselves.

Akunyili Crosby creates unique settings for her subjects, where history, philosophy, and fantasy permeate the walls of quiet living spaces. Furnished with vintage decor and analog electronics, the interiors evoke her own 1980s-era youth.

Gee’s Bend: Shared Legacy

See an installation of prints made by members of Gee’s Bend Quiltmakers’ Collective. The pieces were created by pressing original quilted fabric designs face down on a wax-coated printing plate that captured the fabrics’ texture, seams, and stitching of the original. Through this innovative process, a quilt is translated to a printed surface—a new medium to explore and share the quiltmakers’ creativity. “Gee’s Bend: Shared Legacy” is presented in two six-month installments, each featuring a selection of 12 prints.
