Artist Gelare Khoshgozaran, featured in Many, an exhibition of 12 Los Aneles-based artists who utilize multiples in their artistic practices,. Gelare Khoshgozaran represents the best example of an LGBTQ+ artist who is making significant contributions to the culture of our city through their diverse works. . Born and raised in Tehran, and living in Los Angeles, Khoshgozaran envisions the city as an imaginary space between asylum as “the protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their native country as a political refugee” and the more dated meaning of the word, “an institution offering shelter and support to people who are mentally ill.”
Gelare Khoshgozaran explores the personal and political effects of displacement and the potential for transnational intimacy through video, performance, installation, and writing.
