The 14th Annual African AMerican Composers’ Series – Quadraphonic
April 9 and June 4, 2022
Each spring for the last 14 years, we’ve celebrated African American Composers and this year, we will be celebrating the work of four local composers. This usually manifests in an exhibition with an education program. We are still organizing the exhibition, but the education program registration is open now.
Quadraphonic is a 4-part series produced by the William Grant Still Arts Center that features 4 African-American composers and their contributions to the fields of classical, jazz, electronic and punk rock music. We have invited four curators to dig into the work of four local composers to give us an understanding of their work from a localized and intimate perspective, unlike other features. We are honored and excited to announce these four curators, Chris Terry (Punk), Mark Maxwell (Jazz), Dexter Story (Electronic) and Miguel Atwood Ferguson (Classical). Each curator is working within a genre, and choosing a featured artist as well as the emerging artist creating an audio inspiration or response.
