Ciera Payton of Tyler Perry’s The Oval, has worked with local youth to present an arts based program, Michael’s Daughter Project since 2014. The program teaches youth how to express themselves through creative writing, theater, and filmmaking. This winter, Payton brought local students together at Andres And Maria Cardenas Skate Park to create this film about superheroes that present solutions to issues they have in their neighborhoods.
Payton was inspired to launch Michael’s Daughter Project because she found refuge in the arts while growing up with an incarcerated father, Michael. She wanted to expose youth to the same freedom she found through the arts.
This program was made possible by the artists in residency grant presented by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Andres And Maria Cardenas Skate Park.
